350-501 SPCOR: CCNP Service Provider Guide
What is Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) Service Provider?
Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) Service Provider is Cisco's professional certification for provider-scale IP networks, routing, services, VPNs, automation, quality of service, security, and assurance. Candidates pass 350-501 SPCOR and one current concentration: advanced routing, VPN services, or service-provider cloud network infrastructure.
Cisco lists no formal prerequisite, but that does not make preparation trivial. Learners often have three to five years implementing service provider solutions. The useful question is not whether a learner is allowed to register; it is whether the learner can explain and practice the published domains before paying for an attempt.

Our take
How to pick
Use CCNP Service Provider as the anchor for provider-scale roles. Do not choose it as a prestige substitute for CCNP Enterprise; the network model and job responsibilities should drive the decision.
What's new
The content is stable. This feed will update as exam changes, retirements, or new reviews are confirmed.
Who it is for
It fits engineers working for carriers, internet service providers, managed network providers, and organizations operating provider-style network architectures.
It is not the default professional path for enterprise LAN and campus roles. A broad enterprise network engineer should compare CCNP Enterprise before selecting a provider track.
Why it may be worth considering
The certification is useful when scale, service delivery, traffic engineering, VPNs, and provider operating models are part of the real job. Those problems differ from ordinary enterprise branch and campus operations.
The certification should be evaluated against a specific role outcome, not as a generic signal of seniority. Choose Service Provider for carrier and provider-scale network services. Choose Enterprise for internal enterprise networks unless the environment genuinely uses provider-style architectures and responsibilities.
Where this certification fits
Compare all professional tracks in Which CCNP Track Should You Choose?. At professional level, the track and concentration should reflect real work or a clearly defined target role.
Path position
| Foundation or previous step | Current certification | Common next step |
|---|---|---|
| Strong routing fundamentals and hands-on carrier or large-backbone practice | CCNP Service Provider | CCIE Service Provider, provider architecture, or deeper transport and VPN specialization |
This is a common progression, not a mandatory prerequisite chain.
Exam overview and skills covered
CCNP Service Provider requires 350-501 SPCOR plus one current Service Provider concentration. The track becomes easier to understand when the protocols are stacked according to the job they perform.
A service-provider protocol stack
| Layer | Core technologies | What the layer does |
|---|---|---|
| Customer edge | BGP, OSPF, static routing, and other approved CE-PE methods | Connects customer networks to provider services |
| Service overlay | MP-BGP, VPNv4/VPNv6, EVPN | Distributes customer or service routes and the information required to keep tenants separate |
| Transport | MPLS, LDP, RSVP-TE, SR-MPLS, SRv6 | Builds scalable forwarding paths, traffic-engineering behavior, and fast-convergence mechanisms across the backbone |
| Underlay | IS-IS, OSPF, IPv4/IPv6 reachability | Establishes reliable connectivity among P and PE routers, including infrastructure loopbacks |
MP-BGP distributes customer routes and VPN information; it does not directly carry every user packet. Packets cross the provider transport using MPLS labels, Segment Routing segments, or another supported encapsulation.
Segment Routing and modern provider networks
Segment Routing is an important modern evolution. SR-MPLS represents segments with MPLS labels and can reduce a design's reliance on separate LDP or RSVP-TE signaling. SRv6 represents segments as IPv6 segment identifiers. Migration and coexistence are common, so do not study SR as though every provider has removed its traditional control plane overnight.
IOS XR operating habits
IOS XR is a major operating system in provider core and edge environments. Enterprise engineers often think in terms of editing one running configuration. IOS XR asks you to think more like a service-provider operator: stage the change, validate it, commit it, and be prepared to roll it back safely.
Study commit history, rollback, process state, routing-policy language, and platform-specific verification. At the same time, do not assume that every service-provider device runs IOS XR; IOS XE and other network operating systems also appear in provider environments.
Cost, duration, languages, and validity
The current recorded exam pricing is Core US$400 + one concentration US$300; taxes may apply. The primary exam duration is 120 minutes, and a required concentration exam is normally recorded as 90 minutes.
Cisco lists the credential validity as Three years. The current recertification note for this level is: Renew by eligible exam activity or 80 Continuing Education credits before expiration.
Fees shown in U.S. dollars are planning figures. Taxes, local currency conversion, vouchers, Cisco Learning Credits, language availability, remote-proctoring eligibility, and appointment inventory can change by location. Verify the checkout and appointment screens before payment.
Recorded official exam languages: English.
How to register
- Create or confirm the Cisco account that will be used for the certification record. Use a stable personal email where possible.
- Complete the Certification Tracking System profile and make sure the legal name matches the identification that will be presented on exam day.
- Open the current official exam page from the sources below, confirm that the exam code and language are still active, and follow Cisco's authorized scheduling flow.
- Review delivery rules before paying. The recorded delivery method for this draft is: Proctored written exams; online or in person.
- Save the appointment confirmation and recheck identification, system, rescheduling, and check-in requirements before the appointment.
How to prepare
A good preparation plan moves from the official blueprint to evidence of performance. Reading alone is not enough, and practice questions should be used to diagnose gaps rather than to memorize answer patterns.
- Start with the official exam topics. Turn every domain and sub-objective into a checklist. Mark each item as explain, demonstrate, troubleshoot, or compare.
- Build the minimum foundation first. Do not use exam-specific material to hide missing basics. Cisco Networking Academy, Skills for All, Cisco U., and the official learning resources can fill different gaps.
- Practice the work, not only the vocabulary. Build a multi-domain routing lab and document control-plane behavior, service dependencies, and failure impact. Practice verifying provider VPN or service behavior from both customer-edge and provider-core perspectives. Use assurance data to distinguish a routing problem from a service, policy, or capacity problem. Select the concentration that matches advanced routing, VPN services, or cloud network infrastructure work.
- Use spaced review and error logs. Record why an answer, configuration, investigation, or design choice was wrong. Revisit the underlying concept before repeating the same question set.
- Run a final readiness review. Use the official blueprint to identify weak domains, then complete mixed practice and hands-on validation under realistic time constraints. No course or practice score guarantees a pass.
